Weekend Recap

Despite the fact that I had to work this weekend, I'd say it was pretty productive.  My Friday included a 4 mile run which was uncomfortably warm.  I think someone forgot to tell Mother Nature that it's the middle of October.  I hung around the neighborhood for that run and found this little cutie along the way:
I'm thinking it was a sign that I was running too slow!  But let's face it, that's every run.  Sigh.

Saturday morning was The Color Run that I've been signed up for for what seems forever!  Luckily, one of my partners opened the pharmacy for me so I could run.  Let me just say, calling it "the happiest 5k" is extremely accurate.  I've gotten so used to running races with people that are super fast and super serious, so this was a fun break.  It's not timed and I did it with one of my technicians who is just getting into running.  I enjoyed getting the chance to be the coach and I think Emily had a lot of fun!

Today was my long run.  7 miles.  I don't know why but I had doubt in myself.  Some of my shorter runs this week had been crappy and I just didn't think I was going to be able to do it.  But...
I DID IT!!!  That wasn't just the longest run on my new Garmin, that was also my longest run EVER.  I did have to make one stop in the restroom at the second park on my route.  Let's just say I discovered that granola does not do well for me pre-run.

It was also the first time using any nutrition during my run.  I bought a few different brands at my local run shop the other day and decided to try the vanilla Hammer Gel first.  It sat well with me and tasted pretty good.  What nutrition preference do y'all have?

So that's my weekend in a nutshell.  I'm excited to do a long run next weekend with Brooke at the second 10 miler in the Road Race Series!  Here's to a great week for all of you!

Happy trails,
